Pathways to Practice: Social Work in Health Care

Moderated by SP2 Senior Fellow Dr. Darla Spence Coffey, this panel brings together health care social workers from the Hospital of the University Pennsylvania (HUP) and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), who will share their professional trajectories, highlighting the diverse pathways that led them into the field and the roles they occupy today. Panelists will reflect on their training, early career experiences, and the pivotal moments that shaped their practice in hospitals, clinics, and community-based settings. The discussion will offer insights into health care social work field placements, career development, evolving professional identities, and the impact of social work within interdisciplinary health care teams.
