Nia Simmons
Nia Simmons is a Research Associate for research under the SexGen Lab titled Reconceptualizing Gender and Health (RGH). Supported by a Pioneering Ideas grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, RGH is testing the analytical viability of an innovative theoretical framework to capture the mechanisms through which gendered expectations, experience, and systems impact health. In their role as Research Associate, Nia is responsible for interviewing, coding, analyzing, and organizing the data collected.
Nia is a recent graduate from the Bloustein School at Rutgers University where they received a Bachelors in Science in Public Health with a concentration in health disparities. They are a current MFT student at Drexel’s School of Nursing and Health Professions. As a family and couples therapist in training, Nia is focused on liberatory and holistic forms of care for queer and trans people. Nia’s research interests include community-based research methods, health education, health equity, medical ethics, and improving the quality of care for people who have been marginalized.
