Kavin Haldo is pursuing a Master of Science in Social Policy (MSSP) at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Practice & Policy. They also serve as a graduate marketing assistant for the Master in Law program at Penn Carey Law School. Kavin earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Rowan University in 2024, with a minor in psychology and a certificate in Public Policy.
With a deep interest in access to quality healthcare and education, particularly for LGBTQ+ communities of color, Kavin brings a unique perspective as a transgender immigrant and English as a Second Language learner. In 2025, they will teach English in Timor-Leste as a Fulbright scholar, exploring the development of the world’s newest democracy with a focus on education policy.
Kavin’s recent experiences include conducting research on the mental health of transgender college students with Boston University and Harvard’s Schools of Public Health, and founding SOUL (Shades of Unified Love), a Rowan University initiative advocating for queer students of color. They have also previously worked in outreach for the Office of New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, and as the YMCA Youth Representative on the US Semiquincentennial Commission’s Young Leaders Council.
Kavin is grateful for the opportunity to study at SP2 as a Social Justice Scholar. They aim to use their education at Penn to foster community-building initiatives and shape policies that address the needs of historically underrepresented groups.
