Jennifer Prah Ruger, PhD, Associate Dean for Global Studies, recently traveled to China to visit the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) School of International and Public Affairs. On May 28, the University hosted an international Deans’ Forum on Schools of Public Policy/Public Affairs and Societal Development. Deans from 17 different schools of public policy and public affairs from around the world were in attendance.

At the forum, deans of schools of public policy and public affairs exchanged ideas and discussed important topics, including the social responsibility of public policy schools; training public servants for the 21st century; solving urban problems and development; curriculum innovation of public policy schools; improving global governance; and empowering citizens.

“It was an honor to participate in the forum along with other deans of leading policy schools from around the world,” said Ruger, the Amartya Sen Professor of Health Equity, Economics, and Policy. “I am looking forward to continuing to partner with SJTU and I am excited about the new relationships forged between Penn and the other universities in attendance.”
