NPL
Master of Social Welfare
The Master of Science in Nonprofit Leadership (NPL)/Master in Social Welfare with Yonsei University School of Social Welfare combines social welfare research with practical social change leadership skills to ready students for impactful careers. Students enrolled in the dual degree program can earn both a Master of Science in Nonprofit Leadership degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Social Welfare from the School of Social Welfare at the Yonsei University.
General Course of Study
On its own, the NPL is a ten course unit (CU) degree, consisting of four NPL core CUs, four NPL elective CUs, and two Penn elective CUs. On its own, the Master of Social Welfare is a seventeen graduate course unit program including a social welfare field practicum with a social service agency, research institute, or other nonprofits throughout their two semesters. From the first semester, students work with their academic advisers in selecting courses and publishing research papers in academic journals to build competencies needed for professionals and researchers. When students complete the NPL/Master of Social Welfare, two Yonsei CUs are applied to the NPL program as electives, allowing students to complete both programs together in two years. It is recommended that students begin the Master of Social Welfare program at Yonsei prior to applying to the NPL program at the University of Pennsylvania. Students must notify their academic advisors at both Penn and Yonsei that they are completing this program, so that their course of study can be planned accordingly.
