"I chose SP2 because I wanted to use the dual degree option to connect the Nonprofit Leadership degree to my field of interest’s degree as a pragmatic, functional way to better apply myself and drive change in educational development as a Nonprofit Leader. When I learned about SP2’s experiential learning approach, and their opportunities to learn more about fundraising, philanthropy, finance, law, strategic planning, social entrepreneurship, and more, I thought it would be the ideal dual degree, growth experience, network, and toolkit to best prepare myself for leadership roles in my field of educational development.

"From all of the classes, events, speakers, and opportunities, the experiences that stand out have been my practicum placements. Both have been very supportive experiential learning environments that allowed me to directly apply my classroom learnings and build my professional skills and networks simultaneously.

"I have been so impressed my SP2’s support of student led initiatives and encouraging our growth and ideas. SP2 has supported the implementation of various ideas from myself and other students this year, not only through funding, but also with advice, participation, engagement and enthusiasm. SP2 has been a very fertile environment to grow and stretch as a graduate student because they prioritize applied, experiential, student-led learning."

#ThrowbackThursday! Check out some recent highlights from our MSW Program at #PennSP2. Clockwise from the top:

🔹 Members of the SP2 community visited @PennAlexanderSchool where three MSW students, Kate Sargent, Cheylane Brown, and Cydney Edwards, are completing their field placements. Field education is an integral part of SP2’s MSW curriculum, allowing students to encounter real-world learning experiences directly related to their classroom curriculum at agencies and organizations in Philadelphia and beyond.

🔹The MSW program held a successful “macro” simulation with instructors Steve Wilmot (L) and Jason Miller (R), a winner of this year’s Excellence in Teaching Award! Our MSW Program curriculum includes vignettes that provide relevant practice situations for students – “macro” simulations focus on situations occurring at the level of organizations and broader systems, while “micro” simulations focus on social workers’ interactions with individual clients, families, or groups.

🔹For Social Work Month, @PennLGBT hosted an event with SP2 alum and LGBT Center scholar-in-residence, Dr. Danna Bodenheimer, DSW ’10. Danna (L) is pictured with SP2 alum and LGBT Center Associate Director Wes Alvers, MSW ’23 (R).
