YOUTH ADVOCACY PROJECT
The Youth Advocacy Project (YAP) brings together social work and law students to support young people charged as adults in the Philadelphia area. Under the supervision of the Youth Sentencing & Reentry Project (YSRP), YAP fellows draft comprehensive, strength-based reports to minimize each young person’s contact with the carceral system. We situate our work within the broader movement for a more humane approach to responding to community harms.
YAP is open only to social work and law students and recruitment occurs in early fall semester. YAP fellows meet once a week with their case teams and commit to independently working on reports outside of the meeting. Fellows additionally will have full YAP trainings throughout the year on a variety of topics such as client-centered advocacy, re-entry, and the juvenile carceral system within Philadelphia.
