Bonnie Scranton, DSW, is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Penn’s School of Social Policy and Practice and a full-term Fellow in Leadership Education and Adolescent Health (LEAH) at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She is a graduate of the doctoral program in social work at SP2 and is a licensed clinical social worker and AASECT certified Sex Therapist and Sexual Health Educator. Dr. Scranton’s dissertation research, entitled “Project LISTEN: Foundations and Preliminary Development of a Peer Empowerment Program for Caregivers of Children with Variations of Sex Characteristics” proposed a blueprint for an education and support program for parents of children born with innate variations of sex characteristics/intersex traits. She was a member of the inaugural Grand Challenges for Social Work Doctoral Award cohort, receiving an award sponsored by a grant from The New York Community Trust.

Dr. Scranton has diverse clinical experience, including roles in community mental health agencies, partial hospital programs, college and secondary school counseling centers, and private practice. She specializes in working with adolescents, adults, and couples, and develops educational programs for schools and organizations focusing on sexual health education and relational wellness. At Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, she has served on a multidisciplinary pediatric team, addressing the psychosocial needs of families and children with variations in sex characteristics (VSC) and facilitating connections to peer support communities.

Dr. Scranton received her MSW from Smith College and is a graduate of the University of Michigan Sexual Health Certificate Program. A certified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction practitioner and teacher and Level 2 AEDP therapist, she integrates principles of presence, intention, and non-judgmental observation into her work.
