Emily Rich is the PhD in Social Welfare Academic coordinator. In this role she supports a wide range of initiatives for current and prospective PhD students, as well as for faculty and staff. She also serves as an MSW academic advisor and co-instructor for the Introduction to Social Work course offered through the National Education Opportunity Network and Penn’s Rising Scholar Success Academy. Emily earned her BA in Criminal Justice from Temple University in 2016 and Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Clinical Social Work at SP2. Her research interests include the intersection of mental health and the criminal justice system, as well as the lived experience of behavioral health professionals living with serious mental illness.
In addition, Emily is an adjunct assistant professor of criminal justice at Temple University. Prior to joining SP2, she worked as the clinical supervisor in an outpatient community behavioral health agency and provided clinical services within a local correctional facility. Outside of her academic roles, Emily has been serving on the Montgomery County Public Defender’s Advisory Board since 2022 and is a founding member and active volunteer at her community’s farmer’s market.
