As a native of West Philadelphia, Kia is no stranger to The University of Pennsylvania. After attending Pierce College and graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, she followed her mother’s footsteps and ventured into Research Administration. Her career started at Drexel University, where her passion grew working in their Central Office. There she was responsible for Pre-Award and Post-Award transactions. Her responsibilities included being the Signing Official (SO), creating and negotiating FDP and non-FDP awards. In 2021, she joined The University of Pennsylvania Engineering department as the Pre-Award Grants Coordinator. There she excelled at creating complex budgets, preparing required documents, and acted as a liaison between the faculty, sponsors, and the Office of Research Services. In July of 2023, she joined the SP2 Finance and Administration team. She is always excited to share her experiences with others, gain new knowledge, and she is looking forward to spreading her professional wings and flying here at SP2!
