Ethan Plaue, PhD

Ethan Plaue is a doctoral candidate in English at the University of Pennsylvania and a lecturer in the MSSP program. He teaches the course MSSP 710: Democratizing Data? Critical Data Studies in Algorithmic Governance, which explores the increasing power of computational analytics in governance and control. His research focuses on the prehistory of the media concept, especially in relation to political and economic transformations in the nineteenth-century Atlantic world. Before coming to Penn, he received an MFA in poetry at the University of Iowa where he taught English literature and creative writing.
