Biography

Daisha Thomas-Duffin is a San Francisco native, first-generation college graduate, and social justice advocate committed to improving the well-being and life outcomes of underserved youth. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Howard University, graduating summa cum laude. She is currently pursuing a Master of Social Work at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy & Practice and a Master of Science in Criminology at Penn’s School of Arts and Sciences. Her interdisciplinary education reflects her commitment to understanding the social and systemic factors that shape the lives of marginalized communities. With over five years of experience in youth development, mentorship, and juvenile justice advocacy, Daisha has worked with several organizations serving youth from underserved urban communities, including the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services, Beyond Rhetoric, United Playaz, Youth Justice Advocates, and the Omega Boys Club. Through these roles, she has supported violence prevention, restorative practices, mentorship, and social-emotional development. She has also served as a mentor with the Get Through College program, helping first-generation students navigate college and access the resources and information necessary to succeed. Additionally, as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Daisha remains committed to community service and social justice. Daisha’s academic and professional interests center on juvenile justice reform, trauma-informed care, violence prevention, and the school-to-prison pipeline. She is particularly interested in creating safe and supportive environments where young people, especially those who have experienced adversity or involvement with the justice system, can explore their interests, discover their potential, and envision different possibilities for their futures. Her approach emphasizes holistic well-being, social-emotional and personal development, and meaningful opportunities for growth rather than defining young people by their circumstances or past experiences. She is passionate about promoting true rehabilitation through supportive relationships, exposure to new experiences, and individualized, trauma-informed interventions. In her free time, Daisha enjoys cooking, painting, reading, and spending quality time with friends. She also loves taking walks with her dog, Nylah, and exploring new experiences. Whether expressing her creativity through art, trying new recipes, or enjoying the company of loved ones, she values finding balance and making time for the activities that bring her joy.
