“What’s important to me is being in a space where I can help people and I’m constantly in a state of giving back,” says Gianni Morsell, NPL’22 (@upenn_npl). The first graduate of SP2’s Social Justice Scholars Program, Morsell now works with policymakers in the U.S. House of Representatives to effect social change.

She headed to Capitol Hill in January as a recipient of a year-long @cbcfinc fellowship. After just four months, Morsell was offered a full-time position as a legislative assistant for a member of the Congressional Black Caucus. In her new role, she helps introduce bills and prepares her congresswoman for hearings, often focusing on education and labor topics.

Study: Climate change’s cost includes losses of learning and earnings due to natural disasters

In the wake of natural disasters, survivors’ losses of education and lifetime earnings may be comparable to the cost of property damage, according to a new study by Dr. R. Jisung Park, an assistant professor at #PennSP2 with a secondary appointment at the Wharton School, and coauthors Isaac M. Opper of @RANDCorporation and Lucas Husted of @Columbia University.

Through their research, the authors quantify how natural disasters reduce learning, years of schooling, and ultimately the lifetime earnings of the people they affect.
