7th Ward Walking Tour

Join a 1.5 hour walking tour of the Seventh Ward, the historic neighborhood that WEB Du Bois studied for his 1899 classic book, The Philadelphia Negro. The tour begins and ends at Mother Bethel, the first AME church in the nation, founded by Richard Allen, in Center City, Philadelphia. We will also walk by the Institute for Colored Youth, home of abolitionist and poet Francis Ellen Watkins Harper, and a mural tribute to Du Bois on South Street, among other places. The tour will be led by SP2 Faculty, Amy Hillier who directs The Ward: Race and Class in Du Bois’ Seventh Ward.

Meet at Caster at 9:15 AM to travel together by bus or meet at Mother Bethel
Tour starts from Mothel Bethel (Sixth and Lombard Streets) at 10:00am

Optional lunch together at 12noon after the tour.
