Husel is a PhD candidate in social welfare at the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice. His research examines how climate change distributes its costs unequally across populations, combining causal inference with large scale administrative, survey, and geospatial data. His work spans the United States, China, Indonesia, and other settings across Asia and the Global South, and studies the effects of extreme heat and rainfall anomalies on health and social capital outcomes. He is currently developing research on the effectiveness and equity of climate adaptation policy.
