Chelsea is a PhD candidate and NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Predoctoral Fellow. Her research examines how healthcare systems impact quality of life for individuals and families navigating serious illness and end-of-life care. She is particularly interested in how clinical teams respond to patient experiences of traumatic stress and structural violence across the lifespan. Chelsea aims to leverage mixed methods research to design and test trauma-informed interventions that reduce medical harm and improve the responsiveness of acute healthcare settings, especially during serious illness and end-of-life care. Chelsea holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from Bowling Green State University and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan. She is a previous research fellow with the Zelda Foster Studies Program in Palliative and End-of-Life Care at New York University. Prior to joining SP2, Chelsea worked for several years as an inpatient social worker at the University of Michigan and with the Division of Palliative Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.
